Betsy O’Connell is an associate at Lesic & Camper Communications who specializes in content development, media relations, coalition building and research. She spent more than 20 years in journalism in Northeast Ohio and has spent 15 years working in marketing, public relations and content development with a diverse group of clients including hospitals, foundations, businesses, financial and legal institutions, public agencies and cultural institutions.
Since 2016, she has worked at Lesic & Camper’s Cleveland office, working with a diverse group of clients developing and executing media plans, building statewide support for issues and writing content including press releases, talking points, Q&As and social media.
O’Connell worked for 19 years at The Cleveland Plain Dealer, where she served as deputy features and travel editor as well as bureau chief of a Northeast Ohio news bureau. She oversaw coverage of food and restaurant writers; and reporters covering health, religion, consumer, family and science issues. Her work included many in-depth projects, dealing with topics including fatherhood in America, childhood obesity and death and its impact on those left behind.
She also worked in marketing and communications at The MetroHealth System, the public hospital in Cuyahoga County, and Medical Mutual, a regional health insurer.
O’Connell is an avid hiker and enjoys hitting the trails with her husband, both in Northeast Ohio and throughout the country in national parks.
