As the newest addition to the Lesic & Camper team, Sam joins the firm following more than 15 years working in and around the Ohio Statehouse. Having served in a variety of executive level and legislative offices, he has extensive experience leading and supporting efforts related to strategic communications, media and government relations, coalition management, and stakeholder relations.
A native of the Mahoning Valley, Sam arrived in Columbus upon being named to the Ohio Legislative Service Commission’s Fellowship Class of 2009. Following the fellowship, he worked as a legislative aide in the office of former State Senator Keith Faber before taking on the role of deputy press secretary for the Senate Majority Caucus. While in the press shop, Sam played a central role in the development of caucus communications while advising Senate members and staff on effective media engagement strategies.
In 2012, Sam joined the Ohio Department of Medicaid for a four-year stint as the office’s communications director. In addition to serving as the department’s primary spokesman, he took a lead role in the crafting and execution of key messaging related to health and human services initiatives across Ohio. Following his time with the state’s Medicaid agency, Sam left the public sector to join the Ohio Association of Health Plans as the organization’s director of government affairs. This role saw him managing legislative and policy priorities on behalf of the organization’s membership, while also coordinating and facilitating educational seminars for legislative members and staff.
Sam would later return to state government to serve as press secretary during the final two years of former Secretary of State Jon Husted’s administration. Following the 2018 election cycle, Sam was named communications director in the Office of Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague. While in the Treasurer’s office, he was charged with the development and coordination of all communications and messaging efforts while also providing strategic counsel to the organization’s senior leadership and government affairs staff.
Sam is a graduate of Ohio University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in political science.
